Project description.

A daring vault of golden expanded metal covers the new Department of Islamic Arts at the Louvre Museum in Paris (France). Inaugurated in September 2012 in the presence of the French president, François Hollande, this space houses the museum’s fine collection of artefacts. The covering consists of 4,704 triangular panels produced using highly innovative processes. Each triangle is individually numbered to ensure its correct position in the 3D layout that follows the undulated vault, adding sinuosity and lightness to the whole construction.  The special silver and gold finish of the expanded metal mesh creates an iridescent, sparkling chromatic effect. The covering has an outer layer that acts as a sun shade with calibrated protection that gently filters the natural daylight. The inner layer acts as a proper false ceiling.
